Zion National Park

Expert tips
- Free shuttle no ticket or reservation needed.
- Arrive early to avoid crowds on popular trails.
- Pack plenty of water; even in cooler temperatures hydration is important.
NOTE: Valley of Fire State Park will be closed for maintenance and construction projects Dec. 2 to Dec. 15, 2024.
Bryce Canyon National Park
OVERVIEW
Bryce Canyon’s amphitheater of fiery-red hoodoos is like stepping onto another planet. The park’s high elevation also means cooler temperatures, making it a great spot for summer exploration. Don’t miss stargazing here, as Bryce Canyon is a certified International Dark Sky Park.
EXPERT TIPS
North Campground is open year-round (first come first served Oct-Dec) , or explore dispersed camping.
Dress in layers; Bryce can be chilly, especially at night - but you’ll want those layers (and a telescope if you have one) for stargazing.
Stop at the visitor center and attend the daily Hoodoo Geology Talk to learn about the park’s irregular columns of rock and stunning pink cliffs.
Capitol Reef National Park
OVERVIEW
Often overlooked, Capitol Reef is a hidden gem filled with colorful cliffs, deep canyons, and unique historical landmarks. The park’s Fruita district offers a glimpse into pioneer life, with charming orchards and remnants of settler homesteads.
EXPERT TIPS
Fruita Campground is open year-round and can be reserved ahead at Recreation.gov
Enjoy the solitude and quiet during off-peak season travel, and avoid summer heat.
Bring a high-clearance vehicle for backcountry exploration, backcountry camping permits are available at the visitor center
NOTES: The Scenic drive on the road up to and including Grand Wash will re-open November 26, 2024 after a 6-month closure for rehabilitation. Check site for updates as they have some additional closures planned in 2025. Chimney Rock Trail and the nearby parking lot will also re-open on November 26, 2024.
Arches National Park
OVERVIEW
Arches is an iconic desert park known for its towering stone formations and dramatic sunsets. A visit to Delicate Arch at sunset is a must, and the park’s trails range from easy to challenging, catering to all adventure levels.
EXPERT TIPS
Devils Garden Campground is the only designated campground. Sites are first come, first served during off-season (November - February) however winter campers can download the Recreation.gov app before arriving at the park and use its Scan & Pay function to pay for their site.
Bring sturdy hiking shoes for slick rock trails - the park has hikes ranging from just 10 min, up to an hour or more. Read about difficulty levels of each trail here.
Reserve a permit if you want to try the Self-Guided Fiery Furnace Exploration in off-season or book a Ranger-Guided Loop tour during peak season
NOTE: Arches National Park is participating in a Timed Entry Pilot program in 2025 and reservations will be required starting April 1, 2025.
Canyonlands National Park
OVERVIEW
Canyonlands is a vast and rugged landscape divided into four districts, each offering a unique experience. The Island in the Sky provides accessible, jaw-dropping vistas, while The Needles challenges hikers with more remote trails.
EXPERT TIPS
Carry detailed maps; cell service is limited and there are hundreds of miles of unpaved, four-wheel drive roads throughout the park. Some roads are extremely technical and some do require permits.
Bring plenty of water and snacks for long hikes
